For Isabella’s birthday we gave her a room upgrade. The furniture she’s had since she was a “little girl” is no longer cutting it. She’s growing up and moving on from pink and purple. She’s now officially onto “Tiffany blue”. While Isabella cleared out her room, I worked on removing furniture and getting the room prepped for paint this week.
While Isabella and I worked on the room, Anissa worked on the menu for what would be our first Thanksgiving dinner as a family – just the four of us, at home, alone. With all that we had going on – staying home just felt like the right thing to do. In the 17 years we’ve been together we’ve always spent Thanksgiving with others. This will be the first time it’s just the four of us. The menu consisted of vegetarian faire with desserts prepared solely by our resident baker, Isabella.
We had only a few requirements:
1. Sleep in. / 2. Watch the New York City Thanksgiving Day Parade. / 3. Toss a football at some point that day. / 4. Watch It’s a Wonderful Life.
We accomplished everything on our list with ease and it was by far the best Thanksgiving we Fiores have had in a long time. It was nice being safe at home, surrounded by the three people that matter most. Of course, what was a little bit nicer for Anissa was enjoying a full week free of Dr. appointments.
It’s been 13 days since Anissa’s first chemo treatment. We knew the hair loss would begin sometime between day 12 and day 17. Small reminders of the hair loss popped up here and there – and we found ourselves discussing who shed more…Anissa or Kacey, our golden retriever. We both know it will be just a matter of time before Anissa will soon be rockin’ the scarves, hats and wigs.
With so much to be thankful for this week it was hard to single out any one item. Right now, I think we’re just thankful for being together… and hair. Definitely thankful for hair.
